It receives the name of diprogenta a powerful drug with numerous effects on human skin and which is used in the treatment of various skin diseases . It is a substance composed mainly of betamethasone dipropionate and gentamicin sulfate, the former being a type of corticosteroid and the latter an aminoglycoside antibiotic with effect on different bacteria.
These components therefore make the diprogenta have anti-inflammatory, bactericidal and vasoconstrictive effects in addition to reducing itching or itching, although its use should not exceed two weeks because prolonging treatment with this substance in excess can generate significant side effects (especially due to the use of corticosteroids).

It is commonly used in dermatoses (generic name of skin diseases), among which its use in case of dermatitis (whether atopic, solar, seborrheic, contact, venenata or exfoliative), eczema, allergic reactions. or in psoriasis, reducing inflammation and calming the itching and discomfort in addition to treating possible infections sensitive to the action of gentamicin.

Side effects
As we have indicated previously, diprogenta is a potent drug whose use has to be restricted in time and applied in a very limited way, since it can give rise to different side effects and even intoxications.
Among the side effects that result from an excessively prolonged use and in very large areas of the body highlight the atrophy and cracking of the skin, dryness or maceration of this (weakening and softening of the skin), inflammation of hair follicles, allergic reactions, infections, redness, acne and skin rashes, stretch marks or appearance of hair.
Other side effects of greater severity would include alterations not only in the skin but in other systems and even in the development process in minors (being able to delay growth): it can generate suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, hyperglycemia (from great severity especially in diabetic patients), blood and intracranial hypertension, worsening of glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, cholesterol, ulcer, cataracts, blurred vision, alopecia, drop in blood potassium level or even Cushing's syndrome. It can also cause kidney and liver involvement, with prolonged toxic use.
In addition to that, tolerance to gentamicin may also occur , which would facilitate later infections resistant to said antibiotic.
Contraindications and precautions
Diprogenta is a very potent drug that has a lot of side effects if it is misused, there is also a series of contraindications and precautions that must be taken into account before prescribing it.
It is contraindicated in children under twelve years of age, and their employment in those who have reached that age should be done with great caution due to the possible alteration of the endocrine system and hormonal since it could have important effects on its development.
It is also contraindicated in the case of pregnant women (especially in the first trimester) and infants unless the benefits outweigh the possible risks, given that although there are not enough data in humans it has been shown that it can cause alterations in the fetus in rats.
Obviously this product should not be used if you are allergic to its components. Nor should it be used against fungal or viral infections , in case of tuberculosis or syphilis, in mouth, eye or genital inflammations, in reactions to vaccines or in deep wounds.
It should also be avoided to use this product in large areas, its use in areas covered with bandages or in areas of the skin with a large number of folds, and its use must be avoided especially for a prolonged period. Its use in psoriasis, although it may be an indication for the diprogenta, must be extremely controlled and carried out under supervision. Finally, mixing with substances that can interact with it is not recommended.
